Jamaican Diaspora Launches Celebrations for Golden Jubilee Anniversary
of Independence
(Miami, FL August 8, 2011)—City of Miami Mayor
Tomas Regalado, and Jamaica’s Consul General Sandra Grant Griffiths will
host a ceremonial launch “Jamaica 50” to begin preparations for the
Golden Jubilee celebrations of Jamaica’s anniversary of Independence.
The event will take place on Monday, August 8th at Miami
City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Taste of the Neighborhood is a newly developed idea for
Southwest Broward and anticipates exposing patrons to some
of the area’s best restaurants. This inaugural promotion
will run from Monday, August 15th to Sunday,
October 14th. The culinary event will provide
diners the opportunity to savor incredible, specially priced
three-course meals at a fixed price (Lunch $12-$15, Dinner
$18-$25). Each restaurant will include an appetizer, entrée
and dessert as part of the fixed price. The menus will be
available to patrons Monday-Friday for lunch and
Monday-Thursday for dinner.

DAC Hosts Summer Arts
Touring Series!
South Florida –
Miami Dade’s premier arts advocacy organization, Diaspora Arts Coalition
is proud to announce their Annual Summer Arts Workshop Series. The
Master Arts Summer Workshop Touring Series gives youth
throughout Miami Dade County the opportunity to learn the arts and the
business of the arts first-hand from a professional, practicing artist
who will travel to a neighborhood park or summer camp location and
conduct a one hour, interactive performing arts workshop/demo.
Beginning Tuesday, July 5th and continuing thru
Friday, August 5th, 2011, Workshops will take place at
various parks/summer camps throughout Miami Dade County between the
hours of 10:00 a.m. & 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. The workshops will
cover a variety of performing arts genres, including: Dance, Music,
Poetry and Drama.

Howard Berger's Annual Community Awareness Day Resource and

Miramar Hosts Hoop-It-Up
World Championships
Hoop-It-Up World Championships, the popular 3-on-3
basketball tournament, will be played at the Miramar Town
Center located at 2200 Civic Center Place on Saturday,
August 20 and Sunday, August 21.
Team titles and cash prizes are up for grabs for all adult
competitive divisions.

Back to School Event
in Little Haiti
One thousand children will
receive backpacks and school supplies to start the new school year
(Miami, FL August 11, 2011)—The Little Haiti
Neighborhood Enhancement Team (NET) Office and the Little Haiti Optimist
Club will be celebrating on Friday, August 12, 2011, the 8th
Annual Back to School event, from 10am – 2pm, at Little Haiti Soccer
Park, 6301 NE 2nd Avenue with over 1,000 children who will be
treated to a fun filled day. Backpacks and school supplies will be
given to the first 1,000 children, accompanied by an adult,
first-come-first served.

As Early Voting concludes this Sunday, August 20th,
the Miami-Dade Elections Department is now ensuring polling
places are ready to accommodate voters on Election Day and
reminds voters to come prepared.
The Supervisor of Elections reminds voters that:

Unlike during Early Voting, they must go to their
assigned polling place, which is listed on their Voter
Information Card |

Voters must bring a photo ID with a signature to vote |

Miami Landmark to be illuminated in
Jamaican colors for Independence

In commemoration of Jamaica's 47th
anniversary of Independence, the Bank of America tower in
downtown Miami will illuminate in the colors of the Jamaican
flag - black, green and gold, this Friday (Aug. 7) at dusk.
The 47-floor Miami landmark, located
at International Place, will remain lit throughout the
weekend until midnight on Sunday (Aug. 9) as a tribute to
the Jamaican Diaspora here in South Florida in celebration
of the nation's Independence.
Every
night as of Friday, through Sunday, the building will
illuminate in the colours of the Jamaican flag.
